87% of workers believe it will be essential for them to get training and develop new job skills throughout their career in order to keep up with changes in the workplace, yet nearly a third of employed Americans haven’t received any formal workplace training from their current employer.

Several trends have contributed to these circumstances, including the increase in part-time and contract workers and the speed of technological development that is changing the nature and types of employment. These trends have resulted in a decline in job stability, reduced economic mobility, and a stagnation in wage growth for low and middle income adults.

Village Capital and its partners recognize that real solutions will require collaboration and systems-level thinking. With that in mind, our Future of Work & Learning program will support startups that are helping adults bridge the skills gap through access to college completion tools and wraparound services, alternative credentialing, upskilling, and reskilling. Workers, especially those from underserved populations, will be able to attain sustainable wage jobs and be better positioned to adapt to the future of work as a result.

Village Capital’s Future of Work & Learning program will continue its focus on supporting early stage workforce development ventures for the third year in a row. The program will support entrepreneurs with an award-winning program curriculum, one-on-one mentorship with sector leaders, and tailored engagements with strategic partners and investors. At the end of the program, the top two peer-selected companies will each receive at least $100,000 in pre-committed investment.
