Marizca is a biochemical engineering company operating in the seafood industry. Their unique biochemical engineering backgrounds has allowed us to adapt their expertise to the prawn production, and their intensive aquaculture process generates far more prawns per cubic meter of water than open pond farming or any other aquaculture technique globally. They designed their aquaculture unit for producing warm water prawns in house, in a 100% sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. The first production unit is being piloted right in the heart of London and they aim to sell their delicious and fresh prawns this Autumn. The technology comprises of square layered trays, each utilising a minimum volume of water. There is also a new filtration system that uses a solid carbon source which makes bacteria grow fast and can act as a food source for the prawns. Their platforms are automated through computer-controlled conditions, which reduces environmental and commercial costs. This makes the production process more cost effective, more sustainable and requires less maintenance.
