PhylloTech utilizes a continuous plant expression system to produce proteins in glandular secreting trichomes of Nicotiana tabacum, specializing in difficult to produce proteins and antibodies that are cost sensitive. In this continuous trichome expression system, proteins are secreted to leaf surfaces where they can be easily recovered by simply washing leaves with an extraction buffer. This system eliminates the need for purification, significantly reduces the costs of production, and allows rapid scalability of target protein output to tens of thousands of plants. Key inputs are only light, water, and fertilizer, and plants can be grown efficiently and rapidly in a greenhouse or in the field using already existing farming methods. With this environmentally-friendly system, high amounts of purified proteins that are indistinguishable from native sources can be generated at low cost in a renewable manner.
