Sapato.ru was launched in June 2010 by Fast Lane Ventures. FLV adopted successful online shoe companies’ models from the US and European markets to the demands and nuances of the Russian market. The company is headed by Matthieu Lannegrand who has significant expertise in the Russian and European shoe market.

Sapato.ru was originally funded by Fast Lane Ventures. The company has also completed several rounds of fundraising with eVenture Capital Partners, Kinnevik, Direct Group and Intel Capital.

In Feburary 2012 Fast Lane Ventures sold Sapato.ru to Ozon; the acquisition being the company's first exit and first notable transaction in the e-commerce segment in Runet for more than a year. In April 2012, Ozon sold Sapato.ru to KupiVIP.
