Adriane Brown is President and COO for Intellectual Ventures (IV), the leader in the business of invention. With a portfolio of nearly 40,000 high tech patents, her leadership and business acumen serve as the cornerstone for building a strong, global performance for IV.

Before joining Intellectual Ventures, Ms. Brown served as President and CEO of Honeywell Transportation Systems. Under her management, this $5 billion business unit experienced profitable growth through disciplined global expansion and innovative new products. Under her leadership, Transportation Systems consistently outperformed the industry through innovation, global reach, and operational excellence. Over the course of 10 years at Honeywell, serving the aerospace and automotive markets in positions of leadership, Ms. Brown earned a reputation for driving business results, strengthening customer relationships, and inspiring and leading talented people to meet business objectives.

In 2012, STEMconnector™ recognized Ms. Brown as one of 100 Women Leaders in STEM, and The Root recognized Ms. Brown in their list of 20 Black Women Who Became CEOs. In 2011, Ms. Brown was named as one of the Grio’s 100 History Makers in the Making. In 2009, she was named one of Black Enterprise Magazine’s 100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America.
Ms. Brown holds a Doctorate Degree in Humane Letters and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Health from Old Dominion University. She holds a Master’s Degree in Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was a Sloan Fellow.


Ms. Brown currently serves on the board of directors of Harman International Industries, Inc., a publicly traded company with revenues of $4.4B in 2012. She is also on the board of directors of the Pacific Science Center, whose mission is to inspire lifelong interest in science, technology and math, and Jobs for America’s Graduates, the nation’s leading drop-out prevention program. She lives in the Puget Sound area with her husband and daughter. Ms. Brown is recognized for mentoring emerging talent from all walks of life and for developing future leaders.
