Alan Austin joined Silver Lake in 2003 and is a Managing Director. He has extensive experience as an attorney specializing in corporate and securities work and also as a leader of professional service organizations. Prior to joining Silver Lake, Mr. Austin was a General Partner at Accel Partners, an early stage venture capital firm. He was previously a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati for 13 years and served as the Managing Partner from 1995 until 2000. Earlier in his career, Mr. Austin was a partner at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he practiced for 12 years and chaired the Corporate Department. In 1974 and 1975, Mr. Austin served as a law clerk to Justice William O. Douglas on the U.S. Supreme Court. He serves on the boards of directors of several non-profit organizations, including Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY) and Peninsula Bridge. He has served on the boards of a number of for-profit companies including Instinet, Inc. and Yodlee, Inc., and he also served on the Private Equity Steering Committee of the UN Compact on Principles of Responsible Investing. Mr. Austin holds an A.B. from Harvard University and a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
