Alberto Verme was appointed Chairman of Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Banking for Citi in November 2011. In this role he is focused on delivering Citi's full capabilities to our clients.

Previously, Alberto partnered with Bill Mills as CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa from July 2009 to December 2011. As CEO of EMEA he focused on the 18 countries in Central & Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Prior to being CEO of EMEA, Alberto was Citi's Co-Head of Global Investment Banking and served as a member of the Institutional Clients Group Management Committee and Investment Banking Operating Committee. From 2001 to 2004, Alberto was Head of Global Energy, Power and Chemicals Investment Banking.

Alberto joined Salomon Brothers in 1994 and worked as Head, and later Chairman, of Citi's Latin America Investment Banking Group through May 2001.

Prior to 1994, he worked for Metallgesellschaft AG as President of MG Global Capital in London. From 1983 to 1992, he worked for The First Boston Corporation, where he served as Director and Head of Spain from 1990 to 1992 and Co-Head of Emerging Markets from 1988 to 1990. He began his career at The World Bank in 1979.

A Peruvian national, Alberto received a B.A. in economics from Denison University in 1979 and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School in 1984.

He is a member of the Business Development Committee, the Global Consumer Council, the Citi Foundation Board of Directors, Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A. Board of Directors in Poland, Citibank A.S. Board of Directors in Turkey, the U.S.-Egypt, U.S.-Russia and U.S.-Saudi Business Council Boards, Columbia Business School London Advisory Board, and Columbia Business School Board of Overseers in the United States.
