Angel Recalde is a longtime community services professional who has worked in a wide variety of social and community outreach functions. With an extensive career that encompasses work with youth organizations, rehabilitation centers, and athletics centers, Angel brings a rare grasp of the needs of the community in every role that he has performed.

Among the highlights of Angel’s professional career is his stint at the New York Organ Donor Network, in which he served as Family Counselor for the Spanish speaking members of the community from November 1999 to August 2002. As Designated Requestor for the affiliated Organ Procurement Organization, Angel was primarily tasked with establishing therapeutic dialogs with family members of deceased individuals. Angel also provided bereaved family members with the opportunity to sign up for the organization’s Gift of Life program, which facilitated organ and tissue donation procedures. Through this position, Angel played an important role in assisting families through the grieving and recovery process after the death of a loved one.

Given his extensive background in community and social services, Angel was ideally suited for the Family Counselor position at the New York Organ Donor Network. The role required Angel to identify the relationships between crisis, trauma and bereavement, and to understand the implications of each with regard to how they affect family members and the community. The position also required Angel to recognize the effects of death and loss of a loved one in terms of emotion, human behavior, and cognition.

By providing families with information and counsel on the organ donation process, Angel played a crucial role in helping families move on from a tragic experience, and to make a significant contribution to the community.

In his role as Family Counselor at the New York Organ Donor Network, Angel brought a rare blend of effective communication skills and genuine concern for the individuals and families that he worked with on a regular basis. Drawing on an extensive professional background that included counseling positions in a number of New York-based youth organizations and rehabilitation centers, Angel approached his role at the Network with unbridled passion and a solid commitment to providing a valuable service to the local community.
