Bertrand is the Co-Founder of Fungible.

Prior to Fungible, Bertrand founded Upthere (acquired by Western Digital), and before that was SVP of Software Engineering at Apple reporting to Steve Jobs.

Bertrand started his career at INRIA, a French research institute, and joined Xerox PARC, where he worked on VLSI design aids for four years. He then joined NeXT in 1988 and proceeded to Apple when it acquired NeXT in 1997. At Apple, Bertrand led the development of Mac OS X, and started the offshoot of Mac OS X that became iOS. Bertrand managed a team of up to 1,500 engineers, shipped many releases of Mac OS X and of related products, took an active role in external communications, and personally developed APIs that form the basis of Cocoa (MacOS) and CocoaTouch (iOS).

Bertrand graduated with a doctorate in Computer Science from the University of Orsay, France, and holds about 40 patents.
