Doreen Augustinus Toben is the Member of the Board of Directors at The New York Times Company since 2004. Previously, Doreen served as Executive Vice President of Verizon Communications, Inc. from February 2009 until her retirement from the company in June 2009. From 2002 to February 2009, Doreen was Verizon’s Chief Financial Officer and was responsible for its finance and strategic planning efforts. Prior to 2002, Doreen was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for finance and strategic planning for Verizon’s Telecom Group. Doreen has over 25 years of experience in the communications industry. Doreen began her career at AT&T Corp. and over the years held various positions of increasing responsibility primarily in treasury, strategic planning and finance both there and beginning in 1984, at Bell Atlantic Inc. Doreen's later positions at Bell Atlantic included Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Bell Atlantic-New Jersey in 1993, Vice President of Finance and Controller in 1995, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Telecom/Network in 1997 and Vice President and Controller in 1999. Doreen is also a Member of the Board of Directors of ARRIS Group Inc., Verizon Media and Kate Spade & Company. Doreen earned her MBA in Finance and Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University and her B.A. degree in Political Science from Rosemont College.
