Mr. Stovall joined the City of Charlotte as its first Chief Information Officer in 2008 and is responsible for leading the City’s Innovation and Technology department. In his tenure, he consolidated divisional IT organizations into a new City department, directed the City’s technology preparations for the successful Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, implemented a significant modernization of legacy applications and infrastructure, and moved the City to embrace mobile, social and cloud-based systems. Prior to this first role in government, Mr. Stovall worked within the manufacturing and telecommunication services industries in multiple functions. Mr. Stovall has been recognized as the CIO of the Year in Non-Profit/Government by the Charlotte Business Journal, by the North Carolina Technology Association as the Public Sector CIO of the Year, by ComputerWorld as one of the Premier 100 IT Leaders, by InformationWeek as one of the top 50 CIOs in local, state and federal government, and as one of the 50 Most Important African Americans In Technology by eAccess Corporation. Mr. Stovall received his MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia, and his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
