Jeffrey Spector co-founded Karat with Mohit Bhende in 2014 to fix the process of interviewing and hiring software engineers. Software engineers are shaping the way we live today and the way we will live in the future. Careers in tech represent opportunities to shape the world and create lasting financial stability, and it is a moral imperative that these opportunities are open to all of us.Jeffrey’s passion for helping people achieve financial security dates back to his work as Chief of Staff to Melinda Gates at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In this role, he worked side by side with Gates to optimize the foundation’s strategies, with a particular focus on job candidate experiences and researching how postsecondary education can better translate into economic opportunity.At Karat, Jeffrey has continued to follow that passion. He leads a purpose-driven organization that is transforming the way the tech industry hires talent by making every interview predictive, fair, and enjoyable. To date, Karat has conducted nearly 100,000 interviews on behalf of tech-driven organizations like Intuit, Roblox, and Wayfair. In 2021, Jeffrey spearheaded the launch of the company’s flagship purpose program, Brilliant Black Minds, to bring more equity to the world of tech.Previously, Jeffrey worked in the private sector as an Investment Analyst at John A. Levin & Co.’s hedge fund in New York, where he was drawn to businesses that helped people thrive by solving societal issues. He began his career at Linktone, a Shanghai-based mobile services startup, where he served as VP of Customer and Market Research and helped guide the company through its NASDAQ IPO. Jeffrey holds a BA in economics from Duke University. He lives with his wife and three children in Seattle, WA.
