Jim’s 35-year career in the healthcare industry includes seven years as Chairman, President and CEO of Advanced Medical Optics (AMO), which was sold to Abbott Labs in 2009 for $2.8 billion.

He was previously with AMO’s parent company, Allergan, for over 20 years in a variety of expanding roles, working and living in the U.S., England, Italy and Canada. He led the spinoff of AMO from Allergan in 2002, expanding the business into a $1 billion industry-leading, publicly-traded corporation. Since 2009, he has served as Senior Vice President, Abbott Laboratories and President, Abbott Medical Optics.

In addition, from 2010-2012, Mr. Mazzo served as board chairman of AdvaMed, the world’s largest medical device organization. During his two-year tenure as chair, he led the organization’s efforts to advocate for legal, regulatory and economic environments that advance global health care via patient access to life-changing medical technology.

Jim currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Versant portfolio company AcuFocus, which specializes in corneal inlays and is known for its revolutionary KAMRA inlay for the treatment of presbyopia.

Jim holds a B.S. from California State University, Long Beach.
