Kinsey Wilson is the Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer for NPR.In this role he is responsible for establishing a unified vision for NPR journalism and working with Member Stations to build an effective partnership for the future. The leadership of News, Digital Media, and Programming divisions report to him.Prior to his current position, Wilson served as the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media. He was responsible for all online operations including web and mobile product development and shared responsibility for the online news, arts and music staffs with the vice president of NPR News. He oversaw NPR Digital Services, a Boston-based group that assists NPR Member stations with online strategy and services.For more than 15 years Wilson has played a leadership role in digital media at both print and broadcast news organizations, providing strategic guidance and operational oversight during a period of rapid technological change. He has been a leader in industry organizations and a frequent speaker at industry conferences.Since Wilson came to NPR in 2008, NPR.org, and the NPR Digital Media staff have won numerous honors, including a 2009 George Foster Peabody award for overall excellence, two Edward R. Murrow Awards, a 2010 National Press Foundation award for Excellence in Online Journalism and numerous honors from the Online News Association, Editor and Publisher, the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and the White House News Photographers Association.Wilson's journalism career began at Chicago's storied City News Bureau covering cops and working on the overnight desk. He was a newspaper reporter for 15 years, seven of them at Newsday, before he made the transition to online media in 1995.For the next five years Wilson helped spearhead Congressional Quarterly's early web strategy, serving in a variety of senior management positions.In 2000, Wilson moved into the position of vice president and editor-in-chief of USATODAY.com. He expanded the mission of the site and led the staff through coverage of major news events including the disputed 2000 presidential election, the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington, the Iraq War, and Hurricane Katrina.After a promotion to executive editor of USA TODAY in 2005, Wilson shared responsibility for strategic planning, product development and day-to-day news management of one of the nation's most widely read news publications. He played a key role in the merger of the 500-person print and online news staff and helped spearhead an award-winning redesign of the website. Under his leadership, USATODAY.com was an early pioneer in the integration of social media and the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2007 Online News Association award for general excellence.The past president of the Online News Association (2007), Wilson chaired the national advisory board of the Poynter Institute from 2006-2008, and has served as a juror for the Pulitzer Prizes in journalism. He currently is a member of the Poynter Institute's Board of Trustees.Wilson graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor's degree in political science.
