Klaus Pohle holds German nationality. He holds a Doctorate in economics from Berlin University, a Doctorate in law from Frankfurt University, holds an LLM from Harvard University and is a Professor of Business Administration at the Berlin Institute of Technology.

He has been an independent Director of Sanofi since 2004, and served as Chairman of the Audit Committee from 2004 to 2015.

Klaus Pohle held various positions at the BASF group from 1966 to 1980. He was Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Schering AG from 1981 to 2003, then Chairman of the German Accounting Standards Board between 2003 and 2005. From 2004 to 2008, he held various positions including Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Hypo Real Estate Holding AG, in Munich, Germany.

Klaus Pohle is currently Trustee of Aventis Foundation in Germany.
