Kumud Kalia is Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer of Akamai, responsible for leading the global strategy, development, and operation of the applications and infrastructure that support the company's business processes. He joined Akamai in October 2011, and is focused on creating an agile and efficient user experience for Akamai's customers, employees, and partners. Mr. Kalia is based in Akamai's San Mateo, CA office.

An engineer and experienced CIO, Mr. Kalia is a seasoned leader in scaling IT systems for high-growth, blue chip corporations.

Prior to Akamai, Mr. Kalia was CIO of Direct Energy, an energy and services business operating in the U.S. and Canada with over $10 billion in revenue. Having joined Direct Energy in 2005, he was responsible for business alignment of the Information Services organization across operations, development and support functions, as well as the formulation and implementation of Direct Energy's technology strategy.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Kalia was Vice President and CIO of the Business Markets Group of Qwest Communications International.

He has served as CIO for Dresdner Group in North America, and has also performed in technology, operations and strategy roles at various investment banks.

Mr. Kalia holds an honors degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Wales and is a chartered engineer. He was named by Computerworld as 'Best in Class' among the Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2008, and has led teams that received CIO 100 and InfoWorld 100 awards for technology innovation in business.
