Langston Emerson brings more than 10 years of Capitol Hill and advocacy experience to his role as Vice President of Government Affairs for the Private Equity Growth Capital Council. Prior to joining PEGCC, Langston was Senior Director of Federal Government Relations, for TIAA-CREF Financial Services. At TIAA-CREF, Emerson was responsible for the financial services legislative and regulatory practice in Washington DC. He developed strategy and led efforts to address a variety of matters with the Dodd-Frank Act, including concerns with systemic risk, the Volcker rule and consolidated capital rules for non-bank financial companies.Before TIAA-CREF, he was Director of Federal Relations for the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. In this capacity, Emerson lobbied Congress on issues of importance to the REIT and commercial real estate industry, including REIT tax rules, carried interest and terrorism risk insurance. He also worked at a law firm as a Senior Policy Advisor to clients on several issues including health care, energy and financial services matters.Emerson worked on Capitol Hill as a senior aide to Congressman Michael Capuano and was responsible for his financial services committee work. During his time with the Congressman, he worked on several issues including a terrorism risk insurance extension and led efforts to commission a study on the hedge fund industry. Prior to working with Congressman Capuano, Emerson was an aide to Congresswoman Carolyn Kilpatrick where he was responsible for banking, tax and economic issues.Emerson graduated magna cum laude from Howard University and earned his law degree from George Washington University Law School.
