Lars joined Balderton as a General Partner in 2015, after roles at three of Silicon Valley’s best known tech companies – Uber, WhatsApp and Dropbox. At Uber, where he was Vice President Mobile, he forged strategic alliances with global telcos, including Carlos Slim’s América Movil group across Latin America, fuelling the service’s rapid growth. As Head of Mobile at Dropbox, where he was one of the firm’s first 25 employees, his distribution deal-making, with Samsung and HTC among others, helped the file-sharing company reach its first 100m users. At WhatsApp, meanwhile, Lars was advisor to the business team on non-organic growth and distribution until the messaging app’s acquisition by Facebook in 2014. Prior to that Lars worked at Voicesignal (acq. Nuance), Skyhook Wireless (acq.TruePosition), Ness Technologies (acq.Opentable), and T9 Tegic (acq. AOL).

Lars, who is Danish-Portuguese, grew up across Africa and served with the Royal Danish Guards. He holds an MBA from London Business School, an MSc from Oxford University and a BSc from Kings College London. He recently moved from Palo Alto back to London, with his wife, two young daughters and son.
