Margaret Isa Butler has been doing deals for two decades, as a partner at an Am Law 100 law firm and as an investment banker. Her focus is on M&A, joint ventures, and alternative investments. Margaret represents private equity fund managers, institutional investors, and family offices across the investment strategy spectrum.

Legal Practice Focus Areas:
• Leading execution of private equity transactions (acquisitions, co-investments, restructurings)
• Managing fund formation start-to-finish, such as $10B Apollo VI and $8B Warburg Pincus IX
• Conducting public company M&A, including $1.8B sale of Gentiva Health Services Inc. to Kindred Healthcare Inc.
• Overseeing asset manager mergers and acquisitions, such as the sale of AREA Property Partners to Ares Management LLC
• Creating real estate joint ventures, including the JV to develop $20B+ Hudson Yards in NYC
• Negotiating financing transactions, as for KNIC, LLC, developer of the Kingsbridge National Ice Center
• Advising on conflicts and other governance issues for funds, corporations, and other entities
• Counseling family offices and institutional LPs with respect to business and investments

Margaret is an appointed member of the M&A Committee of the New York City Bar Association. She previously received a “40 Under 40” Award from The M&A Advisor and was shortlisted for a Euromoney Women in Business Law Award.

Margaret is the Founder of War Chest Women LLC, an organization dedicated to women's economic empowerment, and a Director of The Foundation for Gender Equality. Margaret also serves on multiple committees at The New 42nd Street, the nonprofit organization leading the evolution of 42nd Street in Times Square as a unique cultural and entertainment destination.
