Marlon R. Lewis is Professor Emeritus and Scientific Director of the Ocean Frontier Institute at Dalhousie. He is the former Chair of the Department of Oceanography at Dalhousie University, and is also a Senior Scientist of Satlantic LP, an optical instrument manufacturing firm spun out of his research at Dalhousie and now part of Sea-Bird Scientific. He received Bachelors and Masters in Science and Ecology at the University of Maryland, and a Ph.D. in Biology from Dalhousie University in 1984. His research interests span a broad range, from upper ocean physics to biological processes to the ocean’s role in global climate. He is a recipient of the Lindemann Award from the American Society for Limnology and Oceanography, a Special Outstanding Achievement Award from NASA, a Killam Prize from Dalhousie University, a Poste Rouge from the French Centre Nationale de Researche Scientifique and the Izaak Walton Killam Professorship at Dalhousie.
