Michael Casey is a writer, researcher, media commentator and public speaker in the fields of economics, finance and digital technology. He is a Senior Advisor for the Digital Currency Initiative at MIT’s Media Lab, where he heads research into blockchain applications that advance financial inclusion and economic efficiency in the global economy. He is also a senior lecturer at MIT’s Sloan School of Management and is Chairman of the Advisory Board at Coindesk, the leading media outlet and events coordinator within the digital currency and blockchain industry. Prior to joining MIT, Casey worked at The Wall Street Journal, where he spent eighteen years as a reporter, foreign correspondent, editor and senior columnist covering global economics and markets. He is the author of five books. These include The Age of Cryptocurrency: How Bitcoin and the Blockchain are Challenging the Global Economic Order and its recent sequel The Truth Machine: The Blockchain and the Future of Everything, both co-authored with Paul Vigna, and The Social Organism: A Radical Understanding of Social Media to Transform Your Business and Life, which he co-wrote with Oliver Luckett. Casey is a graduate of The University of Western Australia in his hometown of Perth and has higher degrees from Curtin University and from Cornell University. He currently lives in Pelham, NY.
