Michael B. Gray concentrates his practice in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, fund formations, and intellectual property. He represents investors, companies, and executives in private equity and venture capital transactions; mergers, acquisitions and restructurings; executive compensation; general contract and intellectual property agreements and the structuring of partnerships, corporations and limited liability companies. He also has extensive experience advising investors in funds and advising funds on their formation and compliance needs (both on-shore and off-shore).

His clients include private equity and venture firms, asset management firms, hedge funds, family offices, publicly traded companies, institutions, entrepreneurs and middle market businesses.

Prior to joining private practice, Michael was an investor where he sourced, evaluated and closed private equity and venture capital transactions. He also was responsible for mentoring and monitoring management teams at the board and operating levels.

Michael is listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. Clients cite his in-house investor experience as a major advantage. “He truly understands a lawyer’s role and where his advice can add value to a transaction” and “has an open mind [he] likes to try to solve problems instead of indicating why something can’t be done.”

Michael speaks about alternative asset investments at industry conferences, the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and the Kellogg School of Management. He is a former Kellstadt Graduate School of Business Adjunct Professor where he taught the course “Successful Entrepreneurship Models.”

Michael is currently a board member for The Comer Science & Education Foundation. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees and former Alumni Board President at The Latin School of Chicago. He also is a former trustee of the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago’s Society for Contemporary Art.

Michael is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, The Illinois Venture Capital Association and Association for Corporate Growth.
