Michel Brûlé obtained both his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa. For close to 20 years, he has concurrently pursued careers in both academia and business. In both cases, this has involved the development and management of R&D projects with high commercial potential. Along his academic track, Michel has held positions of full professor, Acting Research Dean and Research Laboratory Director at the École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS) of the University of Québec.
In the business sector Michel has been involved with the founding of six technology companies since 1979, holding senior management positions with each. His greatest success involved co-founding voice-over-ATM technology company InnoMediaLogic Inc., IML was sold in July 2000 in a transaction honored as “Best VC deal in Canada for 2000.” With the successful sale of two of his companies during the millennium year, he has acquired solid experience in executing an “exit” strategy.
Through private VC fund M&M Investments, since 2000 Michel has also provided hands-on services to help grow start-up companies and coach promising entrepreneurs. He chairs most of the Boards of his portfolio companies, and occasionally serves as a Board member for other private and public companies.
For more than four years, he chaired the Board of Corporation Valeo, a major Quebec market-value creator for the R&D projects initiated by seven partnering Universities. Michel also actively participated in the launch, and in the on-going operations as an active Board member, of $15 million fund FIER Longueuil , and of the very successful Réseau Anges Québec. Recognized by his peers as an Angel Investor “before his time”, Michel was named Canadian Angel Investor of the Year 2010 by the National Angel Capital Organization.
In early 2011, Michel was nominated for a four-year term on the Board of the new Investissement Quebec, a $3.5 billion financing corporation resulting from its merger with Société Général de Financement.
